Monthly Project for November & December, 2006
Materials Needed:
- One 9" Metal Craft Ring
- 1/4 yd Green Christmas Fabric
- 1/4 yd Red Christmas Fabric
- 1/4 yd Alternate Green Christmas Fabric
- 1/4 yd Alternate Red Christmas Fabric
- 1/8 yd Contrasting Fabric for Bow
- Scissors or Rotary Cutter
Construction
1. Cut all four fabric pieces into 1 1/2" x 9" strips. 1/4
yard should yield about 30 strips. We found using a rotary cutter easiest to
use.
2. Take one strip and simply tie on the metal ring. Try to make sure the ends are approximately the same length. Continue tying your strips alternating the four different prints. For a fuller look tie and then tie again, like a knot. Project shown here is done with a double tie method. When all strips are finished your ring should be full.
3. Tie a bow using the 1/8 yard of fabric. Twist bow so that print shows. Trim edges to complete the bow. If you want the bow to stay put a certain way you can glue it to the wreath.
4. Optional - you can add ribbons, ornaments or flowers to your wreath. You can also cut with pinking shears for a different look.
5. Fluff strips until you get the desired fullness. You're done! Simple! This project is great for small pieces of fabric you have in your stash or left over pieces from other projects. Can also be used for any occasion - Valentines - use pink, red and white fabric and stick a little love note in the middle, Easter - use pastel shades and stick a bunny in place of a bow, St. Patrick's Day - use assorted greens and white and tie a lucky shamrock on your bow. The possibilities are endless. Have fun!
Happy Holidays!
