Suggested Fabrics
Hawaiian Easter Tablecloth
All the colors of Easter eggs in one tablecloth will certainly be fun for the the whole family as well as the keikis (children). This project is suited for the beginning sewer as well as the experienced one. Plain or embellished, the Hawaiian print fabric is the "centerpiece". Add baskets, bunnies, eggs, and candy and you are ready for a wonderful Easter.
Materials Needed
- 44/45" wide fabric - 1-1/4 yds. (will fit a standard card table; measure larger tables for additional yardage)
- Thread to match
* Pre-wash fabric before starting project.
Cutting
- Trim selvage edge if desired.
- Fold fabric in half lengthwise; fold again crosswise.
- Trim raw edges only to square.
- Press 1/4" around each edge; fold another 1/4" and press.
- Tuck corner ends to clean finish without raw edges.
Sewing
- Starting a few inches away from one corner topstitch completely around entire cloth.
- Use a straight stitch, zigzag, or decorative stitch in matching thread.
Options
- Stitch lace, rickrack, or decorative trim around edges for a fancier look.
- This project used Viking Model Rose stitch #24, which looks like one of the plumeria flowers in the fabric.
- Make (2) tablecloths and layers them on the table kitty-corner.
- Stitch the edges with metallic, rayon, or contrasting color thread.
