Pareo Halloween Costume

Pareo, lavalava, or sarape are all similar styles of dress for warm climates. They consist of a length of fabric wrapped around the body in different ways. They can be worn alone or with western style dress.

Materials Needed

  • Hawaiian print fabric:
    Wahines (females): measure bust X 2 plus 4" = yardage
    Kanes (males): measure hips X 2 plus 4" = yardage
    Example: 30" (bust/waist) X 2 = 60" + 4" = 64" = 1- 2/3 yds. fabric
  • Thread to match

* Pre-wash fabric before sewing.

Instructions

  1. Trims ends of fabric evenly. Select two (2) corners on same selvage edge & round off using a bowl or plate as template.
  2. Finish edges using serger or 1/4-1/4 turn technique.
  3. Wrap pareo around yourself, add a lei and instant Halloween costume!

Have a Happy Halloween!
